When it comes to ascended weapons and armor, crafting is 100% the most consistent, reliable and cheapest way to obtain ascended gear, especially once you have the crafting disciplines leveled up. There are 6 crafting professions when it comes to armor and weapons.
The amount of Ascended gear entering the market is limitless as there are many ways to get Ascended while the demand is limited. A players only needs X amount of Ascended. A player puts new Ascended items onto the market everyday. And the amount of people who don't need Ascended anymore in Increasing everyday. The Value would tank.

Its not worth but a must, 500 crafting will let u make ascended quality armors this can be considered the best quality in game atm due to their stats are equal to legendaries but they can't freely change stats. If u want to do high level fractals or raid or any endgame contents seriously then 500 is a must.

When you beat a raid boss you get magnamite shards that can be exchanged for ascended gear. The price also not as expensive as you think!If you're not in a hurry, 450-500 can be done on the daily ascended mats (deldrimor steel and spiritwood for weaponsmith). Since you need those to craft ascended weapons anyway, it can be a nice way to waste less funds. I am sure it works for 450-475 only. Past 475 discover exotics is best way, as i know.
TL;DR :Ascended gear is acquired over different parts of the game. The fastest path for PvE players is Tier 4 fractals, but is also both: subject to loot rng as well as requires a first full armor set of ascended gear. Crafting is often the most expensive, but fastest/ most strait forward way to get ascended gear.
All the other ascended gear is easy to get. You're also not taking into account some of the highly valuable items that came in the Chests of Black Lion Goods. Some people do, yes, but is the average player really going to spend gems or real money on Black Lion Salvage Kits, Mystic Forge Stones, or Black Lion Chest Keys?See the story, collect all the best gear and masteries, make loads of coin, unlock all the best fashion, play the hardest content, complete the rarest achievements. I don't know. What kind of PvE stuff is fun to you? Guild Wars 2 has a lot of content for a lot of different tastes.
